review 1: Thoroughly enjoyed this book, which is a different take on your typical crime novel. Following the accidental death of his son, police officer Harlan gets into a fight in which a man dies. Fresh out of prison and feeling the loss of his wife and his job, Harlan takes on a mission when the son of the man he killed is kidnapped. This book had some strong characters and a believable storyline and I read it in two sittings - always a good sign!
review 2: This feels like reading The Dail Mail. The baddies are as bad as can be and it is a wonder that our hero can possibly withhold from killing them in the name of justice/revenge that in no way would be frowned upon by anyone else in the book. The main antagonist is your standard workaholic, married-to-the-job insuffe
... morerable policeman. His love interest is even more long-suffering than usual and never seemingly minds or cares how many times he lets her down and ignores, upsets or abandons her, always taking him back. The only twist is the self-publicised one at the beginning , the rest is baddie-by-rote predictability. less
