review 1: This book was a really enjoyable read: clear, easy to dip in and out of, well structured and engaging. I have always enjoyed studying Shakespeare, but this book mentions ideas and details I had never come across before and really enriched my understanding of his work generally. It also appealed to my bard-phobic other half, who I caught reading it when I left the room for a moment, who normally groans when I suggest we watch a Shakespeare play.
review 2: A second worthwhile Shakespearean book by author/actor Ben Crystal. Covering so many topics, it is difficult to review succinctly. The best done is to cite the author's intentions. 1. "... tried to make Shakespeare's plays accessible without dumbing them down,"; 2. "... given [the reader] the ability to g
... moreo to any Shakespeare play and feel comfortable reading or watching it."; 3. "... is quick, easy, straightforward...." Highly recommended. less
