review 1: This is a great poolside/easy horror read, which is exactly where I read it. I enjoyed the storyline and the ending was not a huge letdown as many horror story endings are. In fact it kept me guessing and did not end as I thought it would. The buildup was rather slow however, I didn't need quite so much apartment detail and family time storyline - a lot of that was nonessential to the plot. But overall, fun story, suspenseful plot, and most importantly.... original.
review 2: This book started out in a sort of drone that was a bit boring, but at the same time extremely comforting. It made you want to do other things, but you find yourself unable to put the book down. The book was written from the perspective of the wife, Susan, and journey’s through her life a
... mores an obsession progresses. Susan and her husband, Alex, move from their old apartment and into a new one and as the story goes on, you get fed excuses as to why she isn’t creating art. I think that was the most annoying, mainly because I can identify with that type of procrastination. Then, she goes on to become so incredibly obsessive over bedbugs. It’s bedbugs this and bedbugs that, without any real proof.I liked this story because you can really see yourself in Susan’s place. You can identify with a partner who seems too irritable and distant, you can relate with having a ray of sunshine in your life even if you don’t have kids. But the scary thing is, this book makes you start to think like Susan. I found myself unable to eat my pot roast dinner one night because I was thinking about crunching on bedbugs. I couldn’t sleep comfortably until I swept out my bed because I felt like there were bedbugs waiting for me. And the scariest thing is, I have had bedbugs and can tell you how insane they make you. This book and story really goes on to capture that fear.I definitely recommend this book if you like stories that build up and then take you from left field. I felt like this book was sort of predictable, but it made you feel a little crazy because you weren’t exactly sure if your conclusions were right. But by the end of the book you’ll have your jaw hanging open and your face screwed up breathing ‘what the fuck?’ over and over, but with the satisfaction that your assumptions/conclusions were right! less

Meh. It started out great and when you get to the reveal you are like, "oh fuck off."

Some of the most annoying, underdeveloped characters I've read.
