review 1: I would actually give this book a 3.5 rating if I could. It was totally captivating, I couldn't put it down. It has so many elements I like, a treasure hunt, clues and travel. But, the reason I rated it as low as I did is because I'm not sure I 'got' the ending. I'm left wondering what was real, who's who - as in who actually wrote the story (Ben or Butterfly). I don't mind going back to re-read parts to try and figure it out, but in this case I'm still lost and that just makes me feel dumb - not good!
review 2: A librarian recommendation, I was very pleasantly surprised by this odd story of two friends in Paris. Benjamin receives a suicide note from his friend Butterfly, who over the course of the next six months leaves him clues to a search for her notebo... moreoks and belongings, even after her death. The longing for meaning in life and death, as well as the definition of friendship, loyalty and trust are elegantly written about, in an original and unpredictable way. I admit I had never heard of this book, which is unfortunate, because I think it deserves a wider audience and more acclaim than it is getting at this point. Looking forward to reading more by Mr Constable. less
