review 1: A true gem in all respects and amazingly well written book for a first venture. Bruno is quite unusual and his travels are beyond description. Were it not for the unusual 'incest' between the chimp and his caretaker this would make for a great film. Rarely do I come across a novel that bends the rules like this one. This is NO Planet of the Apes, but instead a romp into creative story telling at its best. Bravo Mr. Hale!
review 2: This was really interesting. At times it's a laborious read, as Bruno, our narrator, is given a fairly pompous tone often really stretching the reader's patience of 25 cent words. The paragraphs stretch on for miles. It's a long-read but if you can put on your patience cap it really is a fantastic story with an odd air of believabilit
... morey in spite of it being so ridiculously fictional. If at any point I was taking the book too seriously all I had to do was start telling my partner about the plot line and I was reminded just how over-the-top the story is. But really, this book weaves a unique story that I really can't pin a genre on. I easily found myself lost in Bruno's world and couldn't wait to hear more. If you're drawn to the obscure and you can handle the long-winding flowery language then you will enjoy the ride! less

Super weird. Engaging once you get over the ick factor of some plot points.

The first half was much better for me than the second half.
