review 1: I ummed and aahed about getting this book for several months when entering my local comic shop, in the end, I was at the con and the artist was there and I just couldn't help being sold on the cover art. An utterly charming book that not only has a lovely story, but with an interesting twist on a magic (read alchemy) system. The art is stunning and writing is lovely. I just hope the sequel comes out soon! I think i'll have to go look at the rest of Improper Books selection in the mean time. There is also a great section at the back, where other artists have drawn the characters and an explanation for how they drew each of theirs, which I think more comic books need.
review 2: This would have been the perfect story for me, if not for the lack of detail and expl
... moreanation at the ending. Yes, it's really easy to put the pieces together, but I would have liked to know exactly how Uncle did what he did (how he learned, the process, etc), and seen a little more of Child before the abrupt ending. Aside from that, Poreclain: A Gothic Fairy Tale was beautifully-illustrated, entertaining- an all-around captivating piece of work, albeit a short one. I've never been one for comics except for those that I read when I was younger, but I'm hoping Read and Wildgoose publish more work very soon. less

Creepy. Like the old Bluebeard story, but with porcelain automatons. Sad but with a lot of heart.

Haunting and funny, twisted fairy tale turned existential horror. Wonderfully done.

Magic still exists, though it has a price.
