review 1: This is much different than most Amish romances. The female protagonist was assaulted and raped by an Amish boy before the book began (you find this out in the first chapter, so it's not really a spoiler). The male protagonist has reasons of his own to fight getting involved with someone. It really wasn't what I've come to expect from an Amish romance. That is fine except I chose it to take a break from my usual reads and to read something predominantly pleasant and calm.
review 2: Wow, what book, this book is almost beyond words; this book is about two young people, both with their own heart-breaking stories and secrets, both become friends and want so much more, but feel they can't have it for reasons of their own. For Emily, she feels she is unworthy... more and unfit to be a wife, due to a rape. Her story will break your heart and bring you to tears. David (from the Daughters of the Promise series), had a kidney transplant when he was 15, overhears his parents talking about how long his new kidney will last him and fears he can't find love because he is going to die. Towards the end when David and Emily reveal their secrets to each other, there were tears rolling down my face as Emily blurted out her unworthiness and David, perfect response to it. less
