review 1: I have to admit that THE HOUSE THAT LOVE BUILT harbored more secrets than I was expecting. Each time you turn around, there's another big event. I enjoyed the book and found it easy to keep turning the pages expectantly. Widow Brooke Holloway and new-to-town Owen Saunders are each trying to move on from their old marriages. We also meet teenage Hunter who has his own present to escape. Owen's willingness to help Hunter is a bit convenient. However, how much less societal trouble we would have if we all would step in and help. There is a whole cast of folks in the story with interesting backgrounds such as Uncle Denny and newlyweds Patsy and Harold. Enjoy this book as it blends families and builds a new house of love.
review 2: I thought that this was a
... moreromance novel, I mean, that's how the library had it filed. And I suppose in some ways it is. But this book is really about family. All types of family. Chosen family, biological family, biological family that you just don't want...It's all about family. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I even emailed my mom and told her to read it!So with how much I loved this book, why did it get four stars instead of five? Because there were plot elements that were just too pat, too convenient. The only reason I didn't knock off two stars for possible lazy writing is because...those "convenient" plot elements served to drive home the idea of family. This story got to keep one of those stars for doing a good job with family. Plus it managed to avoid preachiness, which I enjoyed. Though I'm a believer, I tend to steer away from a lot of Christian fiction because of said preachiness. It gets on my nerves a bit. Which makes it weird that I like Grace Livingston Hill so much...hmmm...Anyways! I would recommend this book, with the aforementioned caveats (too convenient plot elements, Christian fiction). I would particularly recommend this book if you need something to cheer you up. I didn't when I read it, but this is one that I could see myself coming back to and rereading when having a bad day. less

I enjoyed the Christian viewpoints in this romance novel. If you want a great romance this is it.

The book was great! Made me see how much we need family both traditional and non-traditional.

Wiseman is so good. This was a great deviation from Amish. Very true to real life story.
