review 1: While the background information on the political and racial climate in early 1960's Dallas is interesting and somewhat germane, I had problems with this book. First of all, the authors merely paraphrase William Manchester's Death of a President in the description of JFK's activities during the Texas trip. Secondly, assumptions that parrot the highly-discredited Warren Commission pepper the narrative in regard to Oswald and Ruby. I was disappointed overall beyond the fore mentioned background reporting.
review 2: A really great history! This book did a wonderful job of explaining the atmosphere and politics swirling in Dallas in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It was also quite shocking to realize how extreme views are and how people's beliefs can so easily lea... mored to violence. A great read for anyone interested in history, especially civil rights and anti-communism issues in the US. I learned a great deal that was never in my classroom history books. less
