review 1: This is a cute book bout a dog, Ellie, and cat, Toby, who team up to be a rescue team, after they are both rescued by Anne. We meet Ellie first at a rescue center where she is confused and saddened because her previous owners felt they could not keep her as they were having a baby. Ellie is a sweet, loving border collie, and was looking forward to being with the baby, but now she is lonely and sad. Toby is a young cat who is discarded on the side of the road after a dispute between a couple. I can see this being appealing to many young students, as most love to relate to stories about animals. In fact, once I get some hard copies (I got a free or reduced price Kindle copy from Bookbub, I know just the 4th graders who will be clambering for it.
review 2: The... more story opens with Ellie sadly waiting in the animal shelter for someone to adopt her. When Anne comes in, they seem to know they will get along well. And their hunch is correct, they bond right away. When a storm comes up one night, an abandoned cat seeks shelter on their porch. The two friends accept the cat,Toby, into their family. Ellie and Toby become an efficient team for finding lost children and pets. After a tornado strikes their town they even search for survivors in the damaged buildings.This story shows the power of affection and second chances. It would be great to use as an example of cooperation, too. Animal lovers and readers who enjoy stories of rescues and unlikely heroes will enjoy this book. less
