Hello reader/s! For a while now, I’ve been writing a bi-weekly post about books that are on my TBR. TBR, if you don’t know is the abbreviation for To Be Read. My goal here is to shed some light on books that I’ve otherwise forgotten about. These books could be books I’ve been meaning to read from the library, or books that have been collecting dust on my shelves at home. My goal though is to say a little about the book and also give a little reasoning of why I want to read them. In hopes of reading them sooner than later.
Hello lovelies! For this TBR I’m going to be talking about two Young Adult books that are both in the Fantasy genre. I’m actually pretty excited about this weeks’ TBR Tuesday since I loooove the Fantasy genre.
The first book I want to talk about has a bit of a humour side to the novel. This book is called Fat Vampire: A Never Coming of Age Story, by Adam Rex.
I first came across Fat Vampire when I was in tenth grade back in 2010. I didn’t have the money to buy the ebook so I got the Sampler instead and what I read made me laugh– and then I wanted to buy the book. I couldn’t though, so I eventually forgot about this never coming of age story altogether. Then about a year-ish ago, I strolled into a bookstore and there it was for only $2!! $2! That’s such a steal in my opinion! I didn’t have my wallet with me at the time, so I begged my mom for $3. ‘Cause, you know, tax and everything.
I’m kind of surprised that I’m looking forward to reading Fat Vampire. I’m not too excited about the Obvious Complicated Love Complex. The main character, Doug Lee, falls for an Indian exchange student and thus wants to prove himself to her. And yes, that ‘O’ was purposefully capitalized. I have a feeling that Fat Vampire is going to have some twists and turns that I don’t expect, and a few that I will see coming about a few miles away. I’m not expecting too much from Fat Vampire other than a few laughs.
The second book I’m talking about this week is Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, by April Genevieve Tucholke.
I know I’m late to the party on this book, but when I first heard of Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, I didn’t think much of it. …And then somehow the book wormed its way into my thick skull and thus, here it is, on both my actual shelf, and the proverbial internet shelf. Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea has actually been on my shelves for a while now. Like, I’m talkin’ a few years long.
I remember over on tumblr that The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was popular with a few people in the bookish community, but other than that, I believe that this book was pretty hush-hush. I don’t know why though. I guess by only reading the book, I’ll find out?
I know that the first sentence of the synopsis had me completely intrigued. I mean, how can I not? The first sentence of the synopsis is ‘You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand…‘ …LIKE?! Aagh, I want to read The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea so badly now. I just thought of this thought. Deep Blue Sea?? Is that a reference to the Devil’s eyes? By re-reading the synopsis, I have a feeling that Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is going to be one heck of a read.
That’s all for this weeks TBR Tuesday!
Have you read either Fat Vampire: A Never Coming of Age Story, or, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea? If you have, let me know what you think! I’d love to know your thoughts on either books.
Thank you for reading!
