review 1: Go. buy. this. book. I can't say enough about it. I went from a farm in the South to the western front and back again, lulled by the seamless beauty of Blaine Reimer's words, the vividness of his characters, and my overarching NEED to see what happened next. I think I'll even read it again, ugly crying or not, just to spend more time in Robert Mattox's shoes. "How could love not grow in a soil so fertile?" Sigh.
review 2: I really want to rate this book higher but I just can't. Through most of the book I was in love!!! I loved the story, the characters, the emotions and they way they were written. The morals that were learned we're so true and beautifully written!!! Sure there were some gut-wrenching parts but that's part of life, right. I even loved the way i
... moret ended for the main character. But, I felt very slighted with the quick and almost corny way the author tied up the loose ends in the epilogue. It was not consistent with the wonderful writings found through the rest of the book. I also was disappointed in the prologue that was never answered. It led me to believe that this was written for the main characters grandson but was never revisited and left me wondering why it was even included. I love this authors work but wish the book was more consistent... less
