Ben MacIntyre does a masterful job of writing an engaging and interesting history of the SAS and the role that it played in helping the Allies to win World War II. The book focuses on a number of characters involved with the SAS, but revolves around David Stirling. Stirling is a rather unique and unusal individual when it comes to military leaders, but he was extremely successful with his unorthodox approach with the SAS.
The books covers their establishment in England and then the role that they played in North Africa. It moves on to the invasion of Italy and the conquest of the rest of mainland Europe.
The book is well researched and well worth the read. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in World War II and in particular about the SAS and the role they played.
I chose this book as the subject of the book sounded interesting. I have not read any other books on this subject. It is the first book by the Ben MacIntyre that I have read.
I received a free copy of Rogue Heroes by Ben McIntyre courtesy of Net Galley and Broadway Books, the publisher. It was with the understanding that I would post a review to Net Galley, Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble and my history book review blog. I also posted it to my Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Google Plus pages.
