review 1: I don't even know what to say about this book. It's definitely not my cup of tea, but it was well written. Jane is a young woman who is yearning for her chance at the love of her life, white wedding, happily-ever-after. She's your typical mid-20's woman looking for more in her life. She attends a party with Scott, her friends-with-sometimes-benefits and meets Luke. Luke is able to read Jane very well and see into her soul. And he proceeds to take over her life in a very short time. Luke is a master manipulator and knows exactly what to do and say to start controlling Jane. Even though Jane realizes how much her life is and will change with Luke, she seems powerless to walk (better yet run, screaming) away from him. Talk about mind-fuck!!! As for the sex and their r... moreelationship - is it BDSM or plain abuse? If you like dark reads, look no further. This is a trilogy and I'm so torn between wanting to know what happens next and escaping in a nice, sweet romance book and a big glass of wine!
review 2: Not sure how this works as I've never written a review before, so here goes. I hope I don't give any spoilers that might ruin it for other readers? I gave My Body His 5 stars. I loved this book/ trilogy. I've read many BDSM books as they are my favourite genre. This however is much darker than others I've read. Being the first book in the trilogy I found it really hard to get through. I hated Luke right from the beginning but something about Blakely's writing compelled me to continue. Many times through the book I just wanted to slap some sense into Jane. This was her first experience to this lifestyle so she had no concept of it to know what was expected of her. She fell hard and fast for Luke and like many who fall in love with the wrong person for them, she took everything he did to her even though she questioned her own sanity. It was quite difficult for me to read as I'm very squeamish and don't get the extreme pain and humiliation involved. Ultimately she realised deep down it was not what she wanted from a relationship. Luke is an extremely arrogant, self-centred, cruel, sadistic man, who made me cringe with what he expected from her. He abused Jane's trust in him, a trust that he demanded from her but did not give her in return. It made me so angry and frustrated most of the time. I could not understand why she would let this happen to herself. Where was her self respect? But this is a story about Jane's personal journey of discovery about herself and her needs. From her compete surrender to Luke, to the realisation that in the end however much she loved him she knew deep down it was not what she wanted. It ended in a real cliffhanger. Will she stay with Luke? I hoped that by the end of Jane's story she truly managed to find her balance of what she needed from a lover/ relationship. This book was a real roller-coaster of emotions for me, and that for me is why I read. I love getting so lost in a story that I find myself getting angry and shouting at the characters. Upset and emotional that I'm crying buckets. Or hot'n'horny at the steamy scenes. This story had it all for me. Thank you Blakely Bennett. less
