review 1: One of my favourite books. I read this in Slovene language, my mother tongue. There is just something so magical and poetic about this book. It's full of life wisdom and I still cry every time I read it.The story takes us to the vast prairie, home of the wild horses. The book is written from the point of view of a young horse and his life growing up, facing rejection from his mother in order to grow up, encounter with his father and his death, becoming leader of the pack and his own idea of freedom in life, which is beautifully written in the story. The turning point is when he founds himself encountering the human and gets captured by him. Throughout the story you get the idea of his resistance because he feels restricted, but as the time grows he finds himself more free ... morethan ever, having a purpose in life and something he is bound to - his family and human - the person who he is mutually depend on. Essentially, this story is symbolising the relationship between human and god - horse being in the role of human and human in the role of god. (I am sorry for butchering this up, forgive me, I'm not very good at expressing in English.)
review 2: This is a beautiful touching fable about growing up and searching for the right path in life narrated by a horse. The main characters are horses and the man as the Master. Excellent plot of every action which is fabulously and logically imagined. The end of the book is too emotional and heartbreaking, because the scene of the main character dying is written too realistically. For gentle souls it may create tears during reading. Sadly, this book isn't written in English so the whole world can't experience it. less
