review 1: I overall enjoyed this book, though I think it moved a little slow for my taste, least of all, in comparison to the other M/M books that I read by the author. I did like both the characters; John the intellect and Sam the underclassman. I liked their attraction to one another, the building of their friendship and trust, and finally their forbidden relationship behind the confines of the hospital John was a patient and Sam the hospital worker. This was not a bad book, some might like it, others may not, I would suggest it, but it didn't contain much "action" (if you know what I mean *wink*) in it and I think that is probably where my disappoint was.
review 2: I was given a free copy of this book by the author for an honest review.Ok so my heart broke on the firs
... moret page before I even knew the main characters' name...then I was on pins and needles the rest of the book. But by the end my heart was mended and I was able to relax (thank goodness). For those who may think it is difficult being in a "non-traditional" relationship in this day and age think again...try having that same relationship in the 1800's. John and Tully were brave beyond words. I mean really, you are in an insane asylum for no other reason than being gay! And you don't let that stop you from following your heart...BRAVE! Or better yet your job is take care of a patient who suffers from this "affliction" knowing you have the same "affliction" and could easily go from guard to patient in a blink of an eye AND you still follow your heart...BRAVE!John is a patient who was voluntarily committed to be cured of his perversions. Tully is a gentle giant of an attendant who just wants to take care of the patients. They met when Tully had to restrain John after an episode and showed John the first real kindness he'd seen since being admitted. Over time their feelings for each other start to grow but of course with those growing feelings come growing problems. The fear of being caught is just one of the problems...What can I say forbidden love, murder, water torture oops I meant treatment. It's a good read try not to have a panic attack like I almost did :-) less

Very well written but the longer I read, the less I connected - not too fond of the last part.

I loved the first half of this, but the second half just did not work for me.
