review 1: You Know What You Have To Do is a novel about a young girl who hears a voice in her head telling her to commit various acts of murder, some of which she follows through on. In most cases, the victims are people who have done her or people she knows wrong. In other cases, the voice tells her to kill an innocent just for fun, which she fights against. She has other difficulties in addition - some people suspect her for these crimes and she also ends up trying to commit suicide after an unrelated event. She learns that another family member also heard voices, though unfortunately this family member is dead. I hope there is a second book coming - I'd like to see how she deals with the voice and if she learns more about her family member who dealt with the same i... moressue.
review 2: What a strange story! 15 year old Mary-Magdalene (Maggie) hears voices that tell her to kill people. And she does. She kills 3 people and gets away with it, all while hiding her true personality from everyone around her. Her beloved stepfather dies of a heart attack, and she can't handle the grief from it, so she tries to kill herself and she ends up in a mental hospital. The ending is totally ambiguous, which is good, but sort of frustrating. It's a short, weird book. Some parts definitely bothered me, like her best friend and the talk about "whores" and "sluts". Not cool. But Maggie's voice and personality had me wanting to know more about what would happen. I almost feel like the book is a satire of Dexter? It really made me think! less
