review 1: This is a particularly good children's book, which we expect now from the Bear and Mouse series. It's a great daytime read that weaves in vocabulary, modulation, etiquette, numbers/counting lessons, and -- most of all -- a strong lesson about trying new things, especially when it comes to books. The illustrations are exceptional and will give you many reasons to pause and discuss what you see in them. The only flaw was the predictability of the ending (even for children), but that is forgivable. A must-read; I recommend buying without reservation.
review 2: Bear has never been to a library, why should he when he has seven perfect books on his bookshelf. But when his best friend Mouse comes by to take him, Bear realizes he can't refuse Mouse because he prom... moreised Mouse earlier that he would go with him. The illustrations of huge Bear skating unbalanced on his little red roller skates with Mouse perched precariously on a little basket that Bear's holding is a hoot, because of the curmudgeonly expression of bear's face and posture. Bear's disposition goes downhill as he roars, "MY VOICE IS ALWAYS QUIET." This is a beautiful picture book with expressive colorful, watercolor and gouache illustrations to share with youngsters, portraying the strong characters traits of Bear and Mouse, and the joys one discovers in the library. Pair A Library for Bear with Michelle Knudsen's Library Lion, as two terrific picture books to promote libraries. less
