review 1: The first entry in this series that I've thought good enough to use in a classroom setting. I appreciate that Meltzer acknowledges that other women before Rosa Parks refused to give up their seats; while I would have liked him to at least mention Claudette Colvin by name, I think noting her existence is a start. I didn't learn that Parks was an activist in general, or that Colvin's protest was the first, until I was an adult, so this book does improve on the traditional Rosa Parks story.
review 2: I am so excited about this Biography series that Brad Meltzer has started. While it only has three books so far, Rosa Parks, Amelia Earhart, and Abraham Lincoln, I hope, for the sake of my students, there are many more to come. What makes these biographies differe
... morent than others? It is the voice that Meltzer gives these important people in our history. Written all in first person, he makes the figures come to life using adorable illustrations and speech bubbles to give just a small hint of a graphic novel. Another reason I am grateful for this series...these books meet the needs of my young ones who are quite ready for the "Who was?" series. less

This is my favorite of Brad Meltzer's children biographies about ordinary people.
