review 1: This novel has a wonderful premise - and the potential to be a really intriguing layered story. Sadly, the author misses the mark, by overdoing some of the descriptions of unimportant details. Cassie has an inherited talent for 'seeing' things that has brought fortune and misfortune into her life over the years. A 'sight' instigates some unpleasant notoriety and her response to this is to try to shut down the seeing completely. The more she tries, the more she denies her true identity and ultimately the seeing helps to uncover important events from her past and that of Laura, the girl she connects with by accident.
review 2: Having meddled in the art of dowsing myself, I was naturally drawn to The Diviner's Tale. If you're looking for fast-paced or action-p
... moreacked, you won't find it here. That being said, I enjoyed the story-line very much. Cassandra is our main character. She finds water for people by way of a practice handed down through her family from generation to generation. Divining, or dowsing, has been around for ages, but it seems it's a dying art. People who don't understand it think it's an old wives tale, a hoax, not anything to take seriously. I'm here to tell you that it actually works. Don't ask me what the physics behind this old practice are, because I don't know. I doubt anyone who practices this art really knows how or why it works, but it does. It's a strange sensation to feel a divining rod (witching stick) being pulled by an invisible hand toward an unseen water source. The first time I experienced this, I was totally shocked. I had always been curious about the practice, but I had my doubts about it being legit. I don't doubt it anymore. This book brings to light the beauty of a lost art & takes it a step further. The outcome is a ghost story that reads like a memoir. I appreciated the imagery the author portrayed. He made it easy to place myself within each scene. I really got a good sense of the atmosphere and what the character was feeling. It's a great story. Just don't expect it to keep you on the edge of your seat or give you goosebumps. There are a couple of riveting moments, but they pass quickly. It's very low-key, but I think that's part of it's beauty. less

It moved a little too slow for my liking, but it was a good story.

Just the right amount of spooky with a good story to go with it.
