review 1: My thanks to NetGalley and All Night Reads for an eARC of this book to read and review.*SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT*Many of the negative reviews for this book mention that the time travel aspect of this book was handled rather poorly and I have to agree. It seems to me that the MC is not only traveling through time, but also between at least two different parallel universes, as the "timelines" she is in are different. The biggest example, zombies in one and not in the other. The language used to describe the jumping isn't clear and it is also confusing to the MC on more than on occasion. Another reviewer said that the "Oracle" wasn't introduced until about 24% into the book and then everyone acted like it was common knowledge, but it wasn't mentioned at all until then a... morend then it was a HUGE plot point. I agree with that reviewer, the "Oracle" wasn't brought up in a way that made sense to me.Love triangle. Annoying. Soulful blonde guy, his moody dark haired brother. Neither are completely upfront and honest with her. Love triangles can be done well in my opinion and this book crosses the ok to not ok line with me. It wasn't as bad as some books, it doesn't completely take over the plot, but it is there at less than appropriate times on occasion. This book suffers from what I call "Harry Potter-itis", where those with the answers don't tell the MC who is supposed to save everyone what is going on, so the MC bumbles about and does stupid things, making the book longer than it has to be. I can't complain that the evil bad guy is the only dumb one, because they all are. I also don't understand how if he is a contemporary of the MC's parents, how he's so much older looking than they are in the MC's "timeline". I'm also shaky on how he was infected with the zombie virus and brought it back. And that's another thing. If Brighton was supposed to be a haven from the zombies and they had all of these memorized rules about what to do during a zombie outbreak, how did it get so bad so quickly in the EA compound? And if the EA had the power to stop the zombies in their tracks, why didn't they do it a LOT sooner so less people died/were turned? And why couldn't Anna jump when she was with Abigail and no bad guys were around to keep her there? I must have skipped the part where she had the "no-jump" handcuffs on her, but Jim could have removed them before he left the office if she had them on. The ending left WAAAAY more questions than answers and that annoyed the heck out of me. I was ok with the abrupt ending, but what Anna said to Abby was an unnecessary curve ball. Honestly, this wasn't a bad book, but I had to force myself to keep picking it up and trying to plow through it. I will echo another reviewer who said she was glad that it wasn't as long as she thought it was. It has an excerpt from another of the author's works at the back, so the book proper doesn't go to 100%, it's somewhere in the 80-90% range, which I appreciated. Again, not horrible, but not the best of the dystopian/zombie/time & parallel universe travel/YA books out there. The second book may help to clear some of the questions up, but with the plot holes and all around busy-ness in this one, I'm not going to go out of my way to read it.
review 2: Received a copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Glitch is fantastic--a MUST read!!! What's not to love? This book seriously has everything: romance, dystopia, zombies, time travel… Sounds like a weird combo, but it makes for a super fun read! It's like she threw in every slice of amazing she could: Hunger Games, Delirium, Terminator, Walking Dead... I loved every second of it. The pace was perfect. The world was well developed and totally believable. The chemistry rocked. Best of all: we were left with one hell of a cliffhanger. Cannot wait for the next book in the series! less
