review 1: In LIBERATION, a group of criminals who fed off of civilization come together to try to restore the USA after it collapses. Slattery has a literary writing style that packs every page dense with concepts and strong mental images. It is a book that your eyes eat. But a bit confusing, the characters underdeveloped, the climax unsettling in that it resolves little. In short, you must love the writing to like this book.
review 2: A wacky, post-apocalyptic, semi-hippie "last big score" (also known as "let's get the band back together) tale with a cast of thousands. Written in an almost impressionistic style, as if he's sometimes describing the shadow of something instead of describing the thing itself.
