review 1: Brian Martinez is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors to read. So far, I haven't run across anything I've read of his that I've disliked. A GOOD CLEAN, A HARSH CLEAN is no exception. This is yet another winner, a dark, edgy, noir-style short style written in his typical sparse style. No unnecessary clutter, no words used without a reason. Just a short & sweet dark little tale that you're bound to enjoy.
review 2: It's going to be hard to review this without giving any real details away; it's only 12 pages long. I think that it's best to go into this one without prior knowledge of what it's about. The writing style is different, but it didn't take my brain very long to switch over to deciphering it. There's a lot of layers here. I read this twice thr
... moreough, just to see if my impressions would be the same with full awareness of the plot. The first time I found myself chuckling quite a bit - there's a dark humor especially in the beginning that I liked. The second time through I felt very different about the ending - it seemed more sad and inevitable. Overall, my main feeling was that I wouldn't mind reading more about this guy. I want to see what happens to him when he leaves town. I want to see what happens when he gets double-crossed by someone that he least expects (I'm looking at you, Andy the barman! Not to mention...hell hath no fury and all that). This is a good introduction to a new author. less
