review 1: 3.5 stars. Irreverent & funny (obviously not for everyone judging by some of the other reviews). This is not a book for ultra-serious, ultra-health-conscious vegans. I would steer those people to Happy Herbivore or maybe some raw books. This book is more of a gateway book to veganism. Nothing is too scary; he spells out the more esoteric ingredients, and the food is similar to what most of mainstream America is familiar with. I would still recommend to anyone, because of some of the sauces and soups.
review 2: *Sigh* I was so excited to get this book, now I wonder why I wasted my money and excitement on it. I am giving it three stars for now as there are a few recipes I'm interested in but I cannot give it fives stars and looking at it now, probably not fo... moreur stars in the future. Why? well the why is purely based on my preferences and if the following issue I have with the book is not a problem for you, then you will probably like it and we can agree to disagree. So back to the why: THERE ARE A HUGE AMOUNT OF RECIPES CALLING FOR TOFU (AND TEMPEH). Like I said, if you love tofu and tempeh then you might just like this book so don't let me turn you off from this book, talk to those who like tofu and tempeh and get their opinions on the recipes. If you, like me, avoid tofu and tempeh, then this is definitely not a cookbook for you. I'll update this after I have a chance to try one of the few (it seems) recipes without tofu or tempeh. less
