review 1: This story is sweet and quirky. I am still trying to figure out the connection of the horrible incidents surrounding Malerie with the bombing, fire etc and the killing of JT and the collection in the basement. Not sure how they are connected and the connection of it all to the boxes but I did love the way it keeps you on your toes. Ace is a young man who had a hard life. In order to make it he became a security man. Now he is knee deep in helping Malerie and trying not to fall in love with her. He is a kind sweet guy who always helps those in need. Malerie is definitely in need.She needs a friend. She needs comfort and understanding and she needs someone who will push her outside her comfort zone. She also needs someone who will be by her side and not because they are paid... more to be there. Ace is trying to help her but is also trying not to get close. Knowing she is in danger and wanting to be there is hard for him because he wants more. He wants to be all the things she needs but doesn’t want to get close. He doesn’t feel he deserves her and and help her if he does. He is also afraid of what she’ll do to him.When things come to a head in Chicago and he opens himself up to her. Begins to trust her Malerie does something to hurt him. He feels that after all their time working as a team to solve the mystery of who is trying to hurt her she didn’t trust him and that hurt him. Malerie was trying to protect him but for him she walked away. that is until he realizes he loves her and only wants what is best for her. He can’t be without her and he understands that her pushing him away to try to keep him safe was her loving him. The two work together in a fun look at two people closed off and trying to open themselves up to new possibilities and to learn to trust someone in a quirky love story that involves bombs, fires, shooting, money and mayhem all around them. They meet some fun characters like Teddy who interprets the boxes and his dad for them. Collin her internet friend who helps them realize what they are to each other and billy the smarmy one who no one trusts but don’t know why.A fun quirky story that has adventures, people learning to open up and trust one another, love that shows up in the strangest times and shows them that they are not alone and need one another and happiness in the least likely moments like when you are getting shot at.
review 2: I want to start by thanking you for letting me read your book. I have to say I really enjoyed this book. From the first chapter it had me engrossed. It was very well written and I connected really well with the characters.I felt so bad for Malarie and all she had been through. Then again for Ace as we heard his story. I enjoyed there relationship and all the tension they fought for so long.I enjoyed the whole mystical element the box brought to the story giving it a different feel than your regular new adult romance. All in all very good and I will definitely reading more of your work. Starting with Collins story as the teaser already has me wanting to read more. less
