review 1: Ethereal Underground follows the story of Ash and Annalise as their paths cross. The two were forbidden to meet, one a mortal keeper and the other an immortal seraph. Whenever Annalise is sent to reap Ash's soul as he lay dying, their worlds are sent into a tailspin. Going against everything she's been taught her entire life, Annalise makes the difficult decision to save Ash and alters their fates forever. This was a refreshing read for me. It's unlike any of the other books I've been into lately. This made it hard to get into, but once I got past that, I enjoyed this story. There's quite a lot of information about the world given at the beginning, and it can be overwhelming. But the authors have created such a unique setting that it is necessary. As the story unfolds and... more you become more immersed in the world, it all ties in. The story is told from two points of view, Ash and Annalise. I found myself enjoying Ash's point of view more because of his wit. He's a very well developed character and it shows. Annalise is well, but I didn't get as much into her head as I did Ash's. Though, Annalise's internal conflict because of her actions make for an interesting perspective on their story. This story is vivid and descriptive. It's very easy to imagine everything that's happening as the story progresses because of the authors' writing style. The plot is constantly flowing, and I never felt like the story was dragging on. I'm not usual a fan of dual authors, but Brooke and Briana do an excellent job at collaborating. It definitely shows that they are in sync with their writing. I would recommend this book to any fan of fantasy novels who enjoys romance interlaced with the story.**I was given this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the authors!
review 2: Ethereal Underground, written by Brooke Kennedy and Briana Gaitan, is the story of Ash and Annalise, two beings who were never supposed to meet. They remained on separate planes of existence until, that is, Anna was sent to reap Ash's soul. Instead, she found herself using her ancient powers of healing. She couldn't explain why she did it, but she knew she landed herself in a whole world of trouble for doing so.Honestly, I didn't think this was going to be up my alley. I thought it would take me awhile to get through it. Once I started it however, I couldn't put it down. It's lengthy but not overly detailed. Sometimes I feel bogged down when authors present a lot of new information at once and I find myself trying to keep up with the world they've created. I'm typically reading for pleasure so if I have to go back several times to understand how the fictitious world works, I get annoyed. I didn't feel like that at all while reading Ethereal Underground. That's the sign of a good writer- when fantasy is flowing and interesting. I read their book in under a week which was pretty quickly since I have two babes who take up the majority of my time. I really really liked it. less
