review 1: Such an amazing book! "Born for Love" is about how empathy develops, the direct affect of early childhood trauma on the development of empathy, and also takes a look at how empathy can impact not just individuals but entire societies as well.Salavitz and Perry wrote an incredibly readable book. The book was such an eye-opener for me and I would definitely recommend it to anyone whose life was touched by early childhood trauma.I particularly loved the last chapter which envisions a way to a kinder more empathetic country for those in the US. I think this would be a great read for anyone.
review 2: I really can't be bothered to read books that purport to be "scientific", but that don't provide proper notes and references. An author could just make up any old crap
... more (or provide the spin they like best) and if they don't give references for their claims, why should I believe them? I think it's great to write popular science books, but this shouldn't be at the expense of proper references. (If it makes a book too long, they could be put online.) less
