review 1: This book started off slow and pretty boring but I'm glad I stuck with it. It was full of twists and turns, happy moments and sad. It was strange to me how the story seemed to be told from each person's point of view, but it was actually 3rd - person all along. Very well written. My only criticisms would be the use of proper nouns such as names of places in Salem, Marblehead etc. in addition to the boating language and vocabulary that I was not familiar with. It took away from my ability to create a scene in my head, however, I thoroughly enjoyed this book, regardless. HOLY TWISTS! What a great ending. 4 big stars from me.

... morell the complex characters. So they come across a little shallow, especially Zee's dad. As a therapist herself Zee shows little insight into the issues in her own family, I would have expected a little more, having her reach out and open up a little to them. I loved Salem and the references to the early shipping industry, this story and it's conclusions left me feeling a little dissapointed. less

An interesting story that is compelling, richly told and makes me long for the sea.
