review 1: Two women own a chocolate shop that is very busy with the build up to Christmas. Rachel is a 29 year old singleton who loves her work and is happy to spend most of her days in the chocolate shop. Rachel doesn't have any blood relatives and since leaving school she has been watched out for by the other owner of the shop, Mama Bird. She is like a second mother to Rachel and Mama Bird will do anything to prevent Rachel becoming a spinster like herself.Rachel is set up on dates that never quite have the happy ending that Mama Bird wishes. The tables are turned when a man walks in to the shop as there are promises of love and possible happy ever after that Rachel and Mama Bird are looking for. This is a short story that is very easy to read. It doesn't go in to too much de... morepth to really make the reader care about each character. The story does flow steadily and with being close to Christmas it does have the holiday feel. There is romance but this story is really more about the build up to romance than the actual romance happening. If you're expecting lots of gushing romance then don't read A Boyfriend Before Christmas because this does not have much in the sense of gooey stuff, only chocolate!
review 2: Since it's so close to Christmas, I've been really trying to get into the Christmas spirit by reading all Christmas themed books, but this one just did not do anything for me…if anything, it depressed me more than anything; I mean, seriously, what happened to Christmas miracles? Rachel McDaniel lives and works for a lady that everyone refers to as Mama Bird. Mama Bird is an old, sweet little lady who you'd picture as your Grandmother. Rachel and Mama Bird met 10 years prior to the story and grew to love each other. Mama Bird decides to set Rachel up on three dates, one with Gabriel, one with Michael, and one with Dr. Raphael. At first, I didn't know what to expect, but these dates just seemed sort of vague and thrown together if you ask me. Although the outcome of this book could send someone into a state of depression, I didn't want to completely rule this book out without reading the second book of this series. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it; it definitely wasn't the Christmas book to get me into the spirit though. less
