review 1: This book is about her stories from working in a crematorium, but is more a start for discussion on how we deal with death. How far removed dead bodies are from families and mourners and how the mortuary companies (mostly converging into one, Dignity) have changed what we do and what we expect from dead bodies. She is a strong advocate of death at home, home funerals and natural burials. It is a very interesting read with lots of points to mull over.
review 2: I was curious what this book was going to be about. In many ways, it is a brief history of cremation and celebrating/honoring the deceased throughout time. Yes, there are parts that are rather gruesome and vivid but overall a pretty tame book regarding death. There are a series of "stories" which make up

Repetitive with little insight. Better off reading Stiff by Mary Roach.
