review 1: This sequel was very entertaining and there was something about the pace of the book that kept my attention the entire time. I read this story in a couple of days. The Duncan family is fun and complex, this story has the makings of a great mini-series. The only thing that I didn’t like was the limited information on Vegas and the way that Paris reacted to Sasha. Overall the reader won’t find too much of a story plot here. The book centers around the development of a new drug, HEAT, and its impact on the family. There are some ties wrapped up from the last book but the writers don’t going into this with a lot of detail. This book ended with a strong promise of a third installment. I am considering reading the book about Paris but honestly don’t find enough d... moreepth of character to warrant a side story (book title: To Paris with Love). I truly wish Weber would consider a side story on Vegas. The eldest sibling has a bigger than life, god-like, perfection that I would like to learn more about.
review 2: Whew just left a book club talking about another book I read and came home to record this review on this book I finished early this morning...So part two of the Family Business and I cant lie I liked this one better than the first one..It read really fast, gave me more character, didn't really go into my man Rio more(sad face) but answered a lot of questions while raising new ones and it still had that same Ghetto cliché hood lit feel but wasn't as predictable and had some new twists involved..In this book the Duncan family is still running both their illegal and legal business with son Orlando convinced he has made the most perfect drug since crack and is pressing the family to distribute and hustle the drug despite differing family opinions coming primarily and surprisingly from the family matriarch and the most annoying character in the last book , the mom Chippy, though she doesn't get a chapter you can definitely understand her better though her "secret past" is always hinted at and never elaborated on..With the internal family drama as well as the outside drama continuing from the last book with the drug war and Orlando's new baby mama and her foolishness the family also introduces another killer cousin, just as bad and impulsive as the reigning family hood princess Paris as well as more insight on the quiet muscle Junior and his new love, I liked both new twists to the story as the rivalry between Paris and Sasha was real life as girls can be so jealous LOL and Junior deserved his own story after being passed over in the first novel, but why oh why didn't Rio get his own chapters, why do they never address whether Harris is really cheating--really missed London and Harris's strained relationship in this book and thought his sideplot was coming too, he should come out as gay also LOL, man I thought for sure they would hit a plot twist like that ..but there is a Part three coming soon and also a Paris novel as if she was that interesting to warrant her own story but I am not opposed to reading either one, very entertaining and fast reads, liked them both.... less
