review 1: When Eleanor Trewyn, niece Megan, and neighbor Nick go for a walk by the shore at Rocky Valley, they spot a person in the water. Megan pulls Kalith Chudasama out of the dangerous waters. Kalith was not a dare-devil swimmer but literally swimming for his life and that of his family. They had been stranded in a nearby cave by the villains who promised safe travel & delivery to friends for those who have been stranded in the international paperwork of the 1970s (not to assume that international paperwork in any better in the 2000s). It’s an excellent cozy mystery and as usual Carola Dunn has written an engaging tale with people one would like to meet.
review 2: This is the latest in a series about a widow/missionary, recently retired to Cornwall, looking for
... more solitude and finding murder, greed, bias and gossip lurk there as well as in the far corners of the world. Set some time in the 60's or 70's according to the author, life is slower in Port Mabyn, and the investigations do not have the benefit of technology, efficient cars, or even good roadways! The issues of immigration and women's choices make the reading more contemporary amidst the small village life and its cast of characters, an interesting juxtaposition. less

Entertaining read. An element of social history makes it more interesting.

Loved the characters and Eleanor was very reminiscent of Miss Marple.
