review 1: April and Isabelle are driving away from marriages on a foggy day. Unfortunately, their cars collide, and only one survives. The rest of the story deals with the aftermath and lives of those left behind. Other reviewers have complained about the inconsistencies of the characters' behavior and how it didn't end the way they thought it should. I didn't find the character development to be inconsistent. I saw it as characters who were very confused about what they wanted and/or needed in life and made mistakes along the way. This book reminded me of Nicholas Sparks' style of writing but without the predictable, life is perfect ending. Overall, this was an easy, summer read.
review 2: When a woman escaping a bad marriage is involved in an accident that cause
... mores the death of another woman, she becomes involved with the father and young son of the deceased. It's a pretty soapy plot premise, but Leavitt manages to skirt predictable romance by giving these characters layers. In the end, of course, it s a book about forgiveness and redemption, love and loss. It's also an entertaining read. Not the best book I've ever read, but a good solid read for the airport or the beach. less
