review 1: I feel like maybe I did something wrong when reading this book, because everyone else seems to have loved it! However, I felt that the author didn't explain everything at the end of the book. I still have a lot of questions that went unanswered and (unless this is to be the first book in a series) I think that shows poor writing. I guess I'm mostly just disapointed because up until the last 80 pages or so, I was really enjoying The Drowning of Arthur Braxton. All in all, I think it could have been a really good book but Caroline Smailes didn't follow through with the ending.
review 2: I read the majority of this book within two days, and I couldn't stop thinking about it when I wasn't reading it. The first few pages were a bit ho-hum, I mean it was a decent eno
... moreugh story about a young girl and her new job, and it was interesting enough to keep me reading but I'd been looking for a book that was can't-put-it-down-good, so I was starting to wonder if I should keep reading, if the whole book was going to stay at this steady pace. But all of a sudden it switched gears, and I devoured the pages. When I finished it my first thought was to tell my friends and everyone how amazing it is and how much they'll love it, but people have different tastes, and I don't want to guarantee someone will love it. I mean it's a really odd story, and parts of it were rather crude -the language for one thing. But I will say that I enjoyed this book so much that it's one of my all-time favorites I've ever discovered. I'm planning to read it again very soon. less
