review 1: This story followed the lives of two people. Hanna and Richard, Hanna lives in Britain with her mother and is 17 when the story begins. Richard is a student at Columbia two years older than Hanna. They at a party in London that his father and step mother are putting on and Hanna’s mother is the party planner and needed help so she asked Hanna to help serve. A spark between the two started the moment they saw each other but he was caught off guard by her being so straight forward. After the party his parents hired her as a nanny for their daughter. That would turn out to be a friend ship for the rest of her life. Hanna ends up working in the music business when she is able to get an interview for with a new rising star because she knows him and the band because they grew ... moreup together. This also will be a lifelong friend. Hanna goes to New York to see her father and to see Richard and is there when he graduates. They make sure they are their foe each other at different times in their lives. When it comes to dating they know there is an attraction but being across the ocean seems to be stopping them. Her mother dies suddenly and he is there for her as much as possible. After that 9-11 happens and his step father is killed so he must take over the company. They don’t see each other for two years when they happen to get together. She finds out that he is engaged and one night when she is all alone and drinking she calls him needing help to get home. He realizes that it is the anniversary of her mother’s death that night they end up in bed and the next morning she is embarrassed with herself. He on the other hand tells her that when his fiancée gets back he going to call it off. Later that morning he calls her to tell her that his fiancée is in the hospital and he does not know when he well be able to tell her. She hires someone for her office in New York and moves back to London. Weeks later finding out that she is pregnant she calls him but gets his mother instead and she lays into her so she never tells him. What happens next takes place 18 months later and let’s just say that part of the story is great and it felt real. This was a very good book about two people and everyone around them and what happened in their lives. A very good book and I really like all of the characters. I got this book from net galley.
review 2: This story ultimately spans more than two decades, is a tale of love found and lost and found, set on two continents with a hugely historical backdrop. That being said, it is really a story about a girl and a boy. At times, I felt like chunks were left out of the story, that it jumped over months at a time, which it did, but in the end that served the story quite well and the missing pieces were not so missing after all. My heart broke at the misunderstandings and missed connections. Hannah and Richard's story is an epic one with all that entails! This story ultimately delivered the goods for this reader. What a ride! One I am not sorry at all to have taken! less
