review 1: Not the worst thing I've read, but definitely one of the most frustrating. Predictable and all-around weak. This book reads like a fanfiction with the names changed. For the price, I expected more editing, more refinement. The prologue sets a nice tone; it is engaging and builds tension, but what follows is dull--and who really wants to reminisce on the 2000s? That just happened (I'm definitely not the target audience for this book)! For those transitioning from fanfiction to the publishing world, take your time. A popular fic does not make an instant literary masterpiece.
review 2: Imagine being transported back in time. A time when technology was starting to make its stride to the creature comforts we have today; internet, cell phones, etc. Meet Hanna, an 18
... more year old journalist-to-be. Walk with her through her life as she befriends many, loves few and finds challenges that many of us can relate to.Carrie Elks has spun a tale with very memorable characters. She walks them through the book with the finesse and strategic grace of pawns on a chess board. Each one a large piece in Hanna's life, placed there to be the support, friend or love she needs to grow as an individual. While reading the beautiful story, I could feel myself becoming Hanna. I lived her life challenges from love to heartbreak to death to heartbreak again and then life and love. Like Hanna there were regrets but in the end, love won as it always should. My line from the book that sums it up for me is "It hadn't been easy or quick, and she had fallen more times than she cared to remember, but eventually she made it out into the bright light of the day."A beautiful and incredible story that deserves all the success the world can offer. less
