review 1: There is something so comforting when reading a book by Turansky, it’s like meeting a new friend or saying hi to one you haven’t visited for a while. The story welcomes you in and you get to love the characters in a quick manner without feeling rushed. Surrendered Hearts follows the journey of Jennifer after she has suffered a trauma. In an instant, Jennifer’s apartment blows up killing her beloved dog, leaving her with burns and scars, and her fiancé leaves her once he has seen the damage done to her body while she is still hospitalized. Jennifer recovers and when she receives a wedding invitation from her older brother Wes, decides to visit him in an attempt to start over.Surrendered Hearts is SUCH a refreshing read and had my attention captivated throughout. ... more My favorite part of the story is when Jennifer takes courage and goes to the 4th of July picnic revealing her scars to her new family. Watching her become free in Christ’s love was very precious. She finds strength she didn’t know she had and discovers she is loved by Christ and her family, which gives her new meaning to life and happiness she never thought she’d attain. I highly recommend this story and I’m grateful for the encouragement, hope, love, and faith it offers.
review 2: I enjoyed "Surrendered Hearts" by Carrie Turansky because of the flawed characters. Even Bill, the mature Christian hero, isn't a perfect prince charming (though he does lend some aid to the damsel in distress.) The dialog kept me turning the pages. There's lots of genuine emotion, from Jenn's struggle to trust God to funny lighthearted romance. The nature park setting adds a lot to the story and I really felt like I'd traveled to Vermont. There's a cast of charming supporting characters and a very realistic "bad guy." The ending felt a tad rushed but it was a satisfying end to a very enjoyable read. This is book two in a the Vermont Blessings series and I'm going to buy number one "Along Came Love." less
