review 1: I'd give it a 3.5. Very enjoyable!! I've never read a book surrounding fencing before, which was fun. And I loved the transition into sword fighting. I do agree with everyone else in that it's all a bit "Disney." Considering that Jill goes to the 18th century, and shacks up with a bunch of pirates, it's really not realistic to write a story where people don't die. There was an amputation, which I thought was an interesting addition to the storyline.... But everything was a bit too "nice" to be a realistic pirate story. It would definitely make for an entertaining movie, though! ;) Good, quick, and fun read! 3.5 Stars

If the author's goal was to maintain the romanticism of pirates then I suppose she achieved this at the expense of any truly harrowing adventures.The premise for the book was an interesting one, but the story fell flat for me. Not my cup of tea. less
