The Blood Guard
review 1: Most kids have dreamed of waking up to an exciting secret. Ronan Truelove's whole life changes one day when his mother picks him up from school and they are chased by freaky looking bad guys. He ends up separated from his mother and in league with a know-it-all classmate and pickpocket running for their lives.Blood Guard is a book full of twists and turns, some expected and more than a few that are total shocks. The writing is solid and the plot and characters enjoyable. It takes a bit of suspension of belief, but it's fiction and the premises make sense within the world Carter builds.A good read for Brandon Mull and Rick Riordan fans.
review 2: different yet so intriguing and keeps you reading! Action packed from the beginning and truly a tale of new world
... mores within a world. The blood guard an extremely unique team is everything the main character Ronin wants to be but only after his truly normal life with his very plain parents is turned upside down with them gone. Along with his friends Ronin must find new ways to survive without capture but even then he plans with an unusual canniness that keeps you reading all the way through. great for just about any reader recommended to ages 12 and up! less

Fast paced, funny, great characters - this feels like a sure winner for middle grade readers.

[I was very involved in this book, so my rating is likely suspect. Still!]
