review 1: Have you even been so entranced in a story that it feels as if the book came alive and sucked your soul in and immersed you into the world the author created? Well, I guess that's how I feel with all books but this one was much more intense than every other time. I was walking the streets of Portland in 1900 along with Olivia. I immediately started reading Dracula after I finished because I had to know the references since it deals so much in Olivia's life. Talk about an original fan girl... The issues in this book were vastly real and I imagined how hard it was in her time. I loved that fact there was a strong swoon-worthy love story but she chose to do what was best for her instead of taking the obvious route with a great guy. I feel empowered and alive because of Olivia... more's journey and honestly, I am quite depressed it is now over.
review 2: It’s Historical Fiction, taking place in 1900, when women were trying to get the vote. It’s about a girl, Olivia, who is a typical quiet girl, but has dreams of voting, having a job as a journalist, and riding a bike wearing pants. Her father is absolutely against her doing any of those things and convinces a hypnotist to “cure” her of those thoughts. It’s an interesting adventure of what Olivia starts seeing, as the hypnotist tells her to “see the world as it really is” and her journey to learning about what is important and how to fight for what you want. A great read! Cat Winters seems to be a great author, and I would recommend her work to any student (and adult). less

Cute, predictable, nothing spectacular. Good recommendation for my 7th and 8th graders.
