review 1: This novel was absolutely stunning. Cat Winters writing style is poetic and enchanting. Character development was definitely on point, because I fell completely in love with them from the very beginning. After reading the Acknowledgments and the little section about Cat Winters, I was surprised to find that this is her first novel. Let me just say that whoever reads this book will become so enthralled that they will purchase whatever book Winters publishes next (hint hint, The Curse for Dreaming was just released). I don’t think that I have ever read a book quite like In the Shadow of Blackbirds. I won’t say anything about the plot line itself. It’s too difficult to explain without giving things away. I will just say that it is mesmerizing and you never know what wil... morel happen next. Some key elements to consider if you’re interested in this book: World War I, the Spanish flu, séances, and spirit photography. Intrigued? You should be.
review 2: This book, at first, was really weird and interesting. The Spanish Influenza was taking over citizens in the U.S. Throughout the book Mary Shelley Black is trying to find her childhood love, Stephen Embers. Mary Shelley moves to San Diego to live with her aunt as a result of her father being imprisoned. She experiences paranormal activity from Stephen. Mary Shelley's goal is to put Stepehns spirit to rest. I don't want to spoil a lot so I highly recommend this book if you love mysteries and a little paramormal activity. less

I enjoyed this; it was a nice little historical mystery with just a bit of the paranormal.
