review 1: I loved the premise of this book -- a cadre of confident old people, tired of being treated disrespectfully and patronizingly in the retirement home in which they live, decide to take charge of their future by committing a crime together. It starts well. The prologue is entertaining, we are efficiently introduced to the characters and their situation. And that's the last plot efficiency in the story. There are moments of humour, certainly, but as a whole, the story drags so very ponderously along. The characters are more caricatures fulfilling plot roles than actual people. There are too many unrelated characters: Christina's children weren't really necessary at all, and required another couple of plodding chapters to weave them into the already ponderous plot. The dialogue... more is often stiff and stilted, though that may be an issue of translation.I finished by dint of skipping madly through the last several chapters, just to see if the friends got their happy ending, but I simply hadn't the patience any more to read each and every plodding page. It's a pity, because the idea of the book is terrific, and I had hoped for a light and laughter-filled read. Had it been done with a light, deft touch, it would have been so much more fun. As it was, despite being interested in the story, I was more often bored than not.Disappointing.
review 2: I was really excited to start this book. It sounded like so much fun. Unfortunately it wasn't as much fun as all the hype let on. It was interesting, sure, but I found myself getting bored at parts and only finished it because I wanted to see what would happen. I liked how it all worked out for everyone and agree that many people would never suspect the elderly of pulling off quite the stunts they did but there are many that would as well. While it was enjoyable it wasn't what I was expecting. I had hoped for more. Oh well, on to the next book! less

This was a good book, but too similar to Jonas Jonasson without being nearly as good as he is.

Story was clever and amusing, but the English translation rather clunky, which is a shame.

Fun read. Nice that old folks are up to silly antics, even tho a tad unrealistic

1.5 stars. I didn't even smile, let alone laugh. Disappointing.
