review 1: Silver thaw is by far the best book I have read in a long time. Catherine Anderson writes and incredible book each and every time and her newest series is set to be one of her best. The characters are loving vulnerable, strong and so life like. The only negative I could give this book is the fact that it ended. If your looking for a good book , the kind that you don't want to put down this is the book for you!
review 2: I purchased this novel because it looked like it might be a thoughtful story of a damaged heroine who manages to evolve past her wounds; fulfilling yet romantic in the mode of Susan Wiggs, LuAnne Rice, and Jennifer Blake. It's not hitting the mark.Interim rating - 25% through the book and having a hard time not throwing it across the room due
... moreto the poor characterization of a survivor and the fact that the male MC is framed as a great guy, but has way too many sexist thoughts. At least he's keeping those to himself so far.***I had an extremely difficult time getting all the way through this book. It was a slap in the face to actual survivors. This author knows nothing of the reality of abuse. Clearly she writes from a place created with only the vapid plausibility of internet searches designed to prop up the imaginary situations she dreams up - the more dramatic, the better. The only reason the work got two stars instead of one was due to the fact that she does manage to create characters you want to like, and root for. But the author drastically needs the capable assistance of an excellent editor to tone down the ridic and to guide her toward learning more about her subjects. I hope she will start with volunteering with actual battered woman's shelters. That would go a bit of a ways toward mending the wrong she's done by the publication of a work that merely parrots and proliferates all the stereotypical misinformation about survivors. less
