review 1: It was tough trying to decide whether to give this book 2 or 3 stars, but after the ridiculous little plot twist at the end, I decided to give it 2.The book started out okay. It wasn't great, but it kept me interested. I liked the hero for the most part. His cussing was pretty amusing (Jesus Herbert Christ) and he had a faithful dog named Sam, which was quite cute. The heroine annoyed me to death. She was whiny, she was prissy, and she kept changing her feelings about the hero every other page. Make up your mind already!! Do you trust him or not?? I wanted to reach into the book and shake some sense into her.I'm not really a fan of children in books, but the little girl Daphne wasn't so bad.So there's a predictable plot twist at the end. That one was tolerable, but ... morethen there's another plot twist at the end that was completely unnecessary and made the already-laughable storyline even more ridiculous. The book is over 400 pages. It's way too long. So much of it is repetitive that it could be compressed into just 300 pages.
review 2: A wonderful story about a single woman who is raising her late identical twin's daughter who creates an errant husband named David Paxton to protect herself and her child from predatory men. She writes letters to her imaginary husband begging him to come get them at the insistence of her cranky employer. When the real David Paxton finally gets these letters, he turns up and that's when the story really begins. less
