review 1: This book is as heartbreaking as it is inspiring; while reading it I was, by turns, horrified and crying as I was laughing and pumping my fist in the air. Cathy Lamb's The First a Day of the Rest of My Life is a story comprising many stories. Alternating between the present and the past, Madeleine's story is told, weaving together love, loss, humour and profound bravery in the face of horrific abuse. But it isn't just her story - it is her sister's, her parents', her grandparents', Madeleine's clients' - this list goes one, and while sometimes the eccentricities of the characters distract from the true heart of the story, this is easily forgiven as the story comes to a surprising conclusion.
review 2: Loved this book!! Could hardly put it down! Imagine being ... morea life coach and counseling people on how to fix your life and your own life is a disaster--filled with fear, shame and secrets and then finding out that the family you love also has secrets. Her advice to her clients is usually bang on and it's interesting following her on her own journey to fix herself. Will definitely read more from this author! less
