review 1: When I first started reading this story, I was not sure I would like it....thought perhaps it was just a ChickLit book. Boy was I wrong. It was an amazing story...powerfully told.I immediately fell in love with the heroine of the story, Stevie Barrett....a young lady who had recently lost 170lbs.....and her struggle to come to terms with....first the weight gain, then weight loss, but the thing that she must come to terms with most importantly is the tragedy that tore her family apart so many years ago.....the horrible schizophrenia that possessed her mother Helen and ultimately took both her and Stevie's sister, Sunshine's lives. It was an achingly honest portrait of a search for love, family and acceptance and the pain that we all carry....and the miracle of the wonde... morers of life, after we let it go. It will definitely be a book that I will recommend.
review 2: I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I can't understand how anyone with a heart would give this book some of the poor reviews I have read. Simply put, as I was finishing this book yesterday, I learned that my "waterproof" mascara does not work. It's been a long time since a book has moved me like this one did. This author does tend to have eccentric characters, and use tough situations (in this case, schizophrenia and morbid obesity) as major parts of her stories; perhaps that is off-putting to some. If you do read this book, be warned that it starts with a very disturbing scene. Please stay with it and see it through to the end. I promise you will not be sorry. less
