review 1: This duology had an intriguing premise and a fast-paced plot, but it was just not as good (imo) as the Inheritor's Cycle. The truth-as-music metaphor gets stretched way too far in places, bogging the story down to the point where I had to go back and re-read whole sections more than once either because she completely lost me or I just zoned out. Also, as a migraineur, the near constant descriptions of the protaginists' headaches very nearly gave me a migraine of my own.

... more power grew, and I missed seeing her sidekick friend at the end. It ended in the right place, despite that.Really, this is exactly the kind of old school fantasy I cherished when I was young. Immersive, thoughtful and fast-moving, with resonance and myth and happy endings. Woohoo! less
