review 1: With the last book in the series, Shaman Joanne Walker must finally confront The Master, an entity who has been causing her problems for months now through various avatars and is looking to be brought into this realm. It needs a host body. That’s just one of two rather large happenings in this story. It begins with a call from Gary saying his wife Anne, who died 5 years ago, suddenly showed up in a hospital on life support and is dying.Once again a great deal happens in a really short period of time. The main action happens in less than 2 days and most main characters from throughout the series are either on hand or are mentioned as the series wraps up. I love the characters. That more than anything had me coming back to this series. The situations and what Joanne... more confronts are interesting and it’s amazing how far she’s come since the series began. I have read most but not all of the books in the series, but have not found that to be an issue when picking up this one. With what I already knew and the back story given to fill in the rest, I had no problem following the story. What I did have a problem with, and it’s why I stopped buying the books after the first few, is my own difficulty in following what Joanne describes is going on when her mind travels outside the physical realm. I feel like I’m following it, but then something else said has me realizing a different path was described than where I thought it was, which I find jarring. This book in particular does a great deal of continual jumping back and forth between the physical and non-physical realms and this book took me days to get through it. There was more than one point where I just wanted to set it aside and pick up something else as this story just seemed to go on and on.By the end of the story I can say I was glad I’d read it, although it left me feeling drained even though we get a fairly happy ending. You might want to keep some tissues handy.
review 2: The final book in the Walker Papers series by C.E. Murphy is an excellent end to an excellent series. What I really love about Murphy is how she has taken so many myths from so many different cultures and turned them into such an interesting story! She has been able to meld them all together in a storyline that makes sense and engages readers. In this last book, Murphy does an excellent job of wrapping up most of the lose ends of JoAnn's, the main character, life. JoAnn has her final battle with the Master, facing off against him with many old characters from prior novels showing up to help support her. It is here that she finally truly embraces who she is and what she is destined to do. With this acceptances, she finds a strength she needs to face this formidable foe. less
