review 1: Well . . . I heard great things about the movie that was based on this book, so when I saw it in the bookstore I picked it up. In short, the movie MUST be better than the book -- though that is usually not the case. First, I am assuming this author has no children of his own and probably does not know any actual children. The sexual acts ascribed to the 8th graders in this book are pretty shocking. To his credit, there are a couple of kids who are happy holding hands and kissing -- but the vast majority of the 8th graders, I repeat 8th graders, in this book are way, way, way beyond any 13 year olds in my real world. Either this guy is living in some alternative universe or I am -- and let's just say I really hope it is him.Second, the technology aspect was interesting ... more--kids and adults on social media of all kinds - good contemplation of the way various technologies change our lives, a decent job covering the issue of monitoring, and a deft treatment of the way people are likely to say and do way more online than they may be comfortable saying or doing in person. But, on the whole . . . I really could have done without the (mostly) soft porn nature of this book. I am still going to see the movie because it has a great cast - but there is no way they would let about 50% of the scenes in this book on film, so it must be pretty different.
review 2: What a load of unmitigated crap. The opening chapter is a male masturbation scene and that is a dull taste of things to come. The world via Kultgen is largely a white middle class internet assisted despairing robotic bunch that lack any kind of emotion beyond (mostly sexual) desire. A simplistic one dimensional novel that attempts depth at the last minute and fails. No female in the novel masturbates, despite barrages of male masturbation, at best females are vassals. The novel is vaguely funny in the way that fart jokes are sometimes funny and readable.Utterly benign attempts the 'awkward' feel contrived. I felt as though the writer felt he was somehow breaking new ground through narrating socks as keen recipients of cum.Disappointing. less

I did not even finish this. Maybe I'm too old but I didn't enjoy one page of the 100 I read.
