review 1: I have to say that the title does not really match the content. On the other hand I did like this book a lot. This is one of the few books I have read, which does not contain any obvious factual errors. It is nicely written and with well formed arguments. It is also one of the few books from which I actually learned a lot. It contains very interesting analysis of polls, surveys, election voting etc. The best part is, that reading this books seems like reading a crime novel. Big plus for the author!
review 2: Seife's book is both informative and frightening at the same time. The examples he provides of how we are hoodwinked by the media and our politicians into believing statistics that are either wholly false, somewhat fabricated, or dressed up to mean somethi... moreng other than what they really do, are startling and disappointing. Even though it's ostensibly a math book, I think it would be great reading for any high school government/civics class, or for you, if you're interested. less
